2015 Cornish Business of the Year – The Cornish Seaweed Company

The Cornish Seaweed Company

Reflecting on winning the Cornish Business of the Year accolade at the 2015 Hub Awards, we asked Tim van Berkel, Managing Director of The Cornish Seaweed Company, a few questions ahead of 2016’s nominations and shortlisting.

Why did you enter the Hub Awards?

“We were proposed by a different company and entered because it would be great exposure and winning would mean amazing recognition for the hard work we have put in over the past years to build our business.”

What have you achieved in the year since the Hub Awards?

“We have started selling in another supermarket (Waitrose), have increased sales and are growing fast!”

What would you say to anyone considering entering the hub awards?

“Definitely worth doing. If you win it’s a great accolade. If not, it’s still good practice and good fun and networking opportunity.”

What’s your favourite aspect of being a part of Cornwall’s business community?

“Everyone knows everyone. It’s very easy to work on an informal level and make connections. It also seems very easy to find similar minded business and form a community.”

What is your top tip for achieving in business?

“Be passionate, enjoy your work, think you are capable and persevere.”
